Ahmad Yusof Out As Kedah Chief Coach, Radhi Mat Takes Over
ALOR SETAR, March 7 (Bernama) -- Kedah chief coach Ahmad Yusof is sidelined and replaced by assistant coach Radhi Mat Din Ahmad immediately after the demoralised state squad slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Felda United in the FA Cup last Friday.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, who is also Kedah Football Association (KFA) president, said the KFA, which convened a special meeting last night decided to appoint Radhi as acting chief coach for a period to be determined later.
"We are concerned and disappointed with the state team's dismal performance despite being bolstered by many national players.
"We hope Kedah fans will be happy with our decision to bench him (Ahmad) to enable the KFA to have a look at Kedah's debacle and review various matters," he told reporters on Monday.
The unexpected defeat forced Kedah to be eliminated from the FA Cup while their campaign in the Super League left much to be desired as they plummeted to the 10th place out of 14 teams with only one win from six matches.
Meanwhile, KFA deputy president Datuk Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah, in a statement, said the KFA would examine factors which led to Kedah's decline besides getting independent opinions.
He said the players would be investigated by the KFA disciplinary, inquiry and monitoring committee.
The special meeting was convened to study the state squad's dismal performance, he said, adding that, "We feel the debacle should be shouldered together while providing opportunities for the players to give their explanations."
